Foxwedge Beats Hay List In Group One
Sydney colt Foxwedge has upset star sprinter Hay List at Moonee Valley to win the Group One William Reid Stakes.
Ridden by Nash Rawiller who won the Albury Cup earlier in the day on Extra Zero, Foxwedge finished third to Hay List in the Newmarket Handicap last Saturday week.
Hay List was the subject of veterinary tests during the week after suffering a foot abscess and had no answer when Foxwedge overhauled him in the final metres with early leader Buffering third.
A $925,000 yearling, Foxwedge is owned by Dr Edmund Bateman and trained by John O'Shea.
Just last week, O'Shea was considering his future after losing a court case which threatened his livelihood with the trainer ordered to pay a former owner for not disclosing a problem with a horse bought as a yearling.
Foxwedge will now join the Australian contenders for the major sprint races at Royal Ascot in June.
