Alverta Chasing French Group One
Paul Messara is expecting July Cup placegetter Alverta to be right at her best when she chases international success in France next weekend.
Alverta, who finished third in the Group One July Cup at Newmarket in England earlier this month, will run in the Group One Prix De Gheest (1300m) at Deauville on Sunday week.
Messara said Alverta had come through her July Cup run in great order.
"She ran really well there and we expected that," Messara told Sydney's Sky Sports radio.
"That's the race we targeted, she didn't travel that well over there which was well documented and it just took us a little while to get her back on song."
Alverta finished 14th at her first start in England in the Group One Golden Jubilee (1207m) at Royal Ascot on June 19 before her third in the July Cup (1207m) on July 9.
"That race (July Cup) was always going to suit her, it was a pretty stiff six furlongs," Messara said.
"She came through the July Cup really well and I'm expecting her to be at her best at Deauville on Sunday week."
Stakeswinning two-year-old Beneteau, meanwhile, is expected to head straight to Melbourne to race this preparation after suffering a setback while spelling which has put his campaign back a few weeks.
"He must have slipped over in the paddock and I think he just pulled a couple of muscles in behind and we had to give him a little bit more time than anticipated," Messara said.
"Therefore he's probably about three or four weeks behind.
"We'll probably be heading straight down to Melbourne for the spring. He goes well on that leg and I think he'll be up to his neck in some of the better races there."
