Murwillumbah Races Postponed

Tweed River Jockey Club Officials (TRJC) advise of the decision by Racing NSW to postpone tomorrow’s Murwillumbah meeting owing to the current state of the track and the inclement weather affecting far northern NSW.

An official walk of the track by Northern Rivers Racing Association chief steward Craig Pringle mid afternoon revealed a track the worse for wear after several days rain.

TRJC secretary-manager Steve Huggins was with Mr Pringle during the walk and said that they got about half way through when it became evident that the track was displaying signs of being heavily water affected.

“The current state of the track is unsafe for racing, and weather forecasts give no indication of marked improvement to conditions in the short term,” Mr Huggins said.

“It’s a shame we won’t be able to host the Bracelet as we’d liked, as all indications were it was going to be a cracker of a race meet, but of course safety is paramount and we have to be realistic.”

“You can’t control the weather, and chief steward Pringle had no choice.”

“The racecourse recorded 25 mls last night alone, and 15 mls during the day and it’s continuing.”
