Gold Trail Vaccinated Ahead Of Possible Trips

Gold Trail was vaccinated on Tuesday with trainer Gary Portelli hopeful of targeting races in Singapore and England with the Group One winner.

The five-year-old had his first venture overseas recently when he turned in two vastly contrasting performances in New Zealand.

He won the Group One Railway Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year's Day before failing to beat a runner home in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham three weeks later.

Portelli said the Group One The Galaxy (1100m) at Randwick on April 17 would make or break overseas plans for Gold Trail.

"He was vaccinated today just in case we go to Singapore for the KrisFlyer and hopefully to England for the King's Stand," Portelli said.

"He would have to finish in the top three in The Galaxy, then we'll go if invited.

"If he happens to run a shocker then we won't go."

Australian champion sprinter Takeover Target won the KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m) in 2008.

He also won the King's Stand Stakes (1006m) at Royal Ascot two years earlier.

The KrisFlyer is at Kranji in May while the King's Stand is a month later at Royal Ascot.

"The world is a small place now and sometimes you only get one chance in a lifetime with a horse and this might be my chance," Portelli said.

"I know he's no world-beater but over there he'd probably look good against those UK horses over 1000 (metres)."

Last October Gold Trail defeated Fritz's Princess to win the Group Two The Shorts (1100m) at Randwick by four lengths.

Gold Trail has won seven of his 24 starts and more than $645,000 in prizemoney.
