Rocket Man Fires In Singapore
Rocket Man showed why he is considered Singapore’s best sprinter after trouncing his rivals in the S$125,000 Kranji Stakes A (1200m) on Sunday.
Ridden by regular jockey Robbie Fradd, Rocket Man smashed his rivals into submission winning the race by four and a half lengths ahead of Switchblade and Perfect Sky.
Rocket Man injured his hairline condylar fracture of the cannon bone to his off-side foreleg last July and prior to Sunday had not raced since finishing second to champion sprinter Sacred Kingdom in last year’s KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m) in mid-May.
But it was a dominant display in every sense for a horse returning from an extended injury break.
Trainer Patrick Shaw was happy with the win yet relived he had come through his comeback race seemingly unscathed.
“I have been a nerve wrecking week waiting for this race to come about,” Shaw told the official website of the Singapore Turf Club before adding, “I am glad it is all over with now.”
Rocket Man is being aimed at the US$2 million Group 1 Golden Shaheen (1200m) on the Tapeta surface at Meydan on March 27, also known as Dubai World Cup night.
All going well, he is likely to return home to try and go one better in the in the US$690,000 Group 1 KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m) on May 16.
By Viscount out of Mr McGinty mare Macrosa, Rocket Man has won eight of his nine starts.
