Williams Lodges Appeal Against Suspension

Craig WilliamsCraig Williams will appear before the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Wednesday to overturn a careless riding suspension incurred at Caulfield on Saturday.

Williams pleaded guilty and was outed for 12 meetings for careless riding aboard Carbon Trader in the $70,000 Selangor Turf Club Handicap (2000m).

Stewards deemed that passing the 300m mark, Williams permitted Carbon Trader to shift in whilst riding along with the whip when not clear to a point near the 250m where Old Jock clipped the heels of Carbon Trader and almost fell.

Stewards were of the view that the carelessness qualified for the mid-range category and made some allowance for the shift from No Jurisdiction (Danny Nikolic) prior to this incident occurring.

Williams had his licence to ride in races suspended from after today’s meeting at Hobart till February 19 and has not applied for a stay of proceedings.

He is currently booked to ride in Hong Kong this Sunday aboard the John Size-trained Tuscan Spirit in the Group 2 Mercedes-Benz Hong Kong Derby Trial however Williams will need his suspension substantially reduced on appeal to be allowed to fulfil that engagement.
