Gauci Treble Underlines His Ability
Darren Gauci, certainly pulled the right rein yesterday in preferring to ride at Bendigo, where he rode three winners and two placings from six rides, instead of Caulfield.
It is difficult to understand why trainers are not using him more in the city as he is an outstanding judge of pace.
For trainers that may have a puller he is the man for the job as he rarely moves in the saddle or alters his grip.
Of course he was tutored in the right school by his former master Frank King who had no peer when it came to educating young jockeys.
King came up in the right school under ex-New Zealander Vin O’Neill who trained Spearfelt to win the Melbourne Cup.
Included in the Gauci treble was the Marong Cup (2200m) on Superzeel for Wadham Park trainer Dale Sutton.
Superzeel, as the name suggests, is by Zabeel and is worth noting for a restricted city race over a bit of ground as he sticks on well.
