Psychologist Leaves Prelude Field Mentally Scarred

The Blue Diamond market has taken a new shape after the class record breaking win of Psychologist on debut in the $125,000 Group 3 Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies at Caulfield today.

Psychologist ($5.50,$6.50) jumped well and took up the leading duties travelling well throughout and when asked to sprint at the 400m mark by jockey Mark Zahra did so in style thrashing Shes Got Gears ($5,$5.50) by over four lengths with Jalsah ($8,$11) another head away third and the eye catching Sheila's Star ($15,$21,$16) finishing a close fifth.

Entered for both a country maiden and today's event trainer Tony Vasil made the executive decision to contest the Group 3 event after Tuesday's trackwork.

"I jumped on her on Tuesday morning and after working her I just went 'wow'," he added.

"Thats why we scratched her from Kyneton last weekend," he joked.

The filly by Choisir was a $120,000 purchase at the Easter Yearling Sale and has always shown ability according to Vasil.

"She has always shown good ability and over the last three or four weeks has just gotten better and better and better" he said.

Her winning time of 1:02.67 shaved more than half a second off the previous Class Record and Vasil assured punters he was happy with the fillies shins.

"She is not shin sore, she is sound and I hope she stays that way," said Vasil

"I walked the track this morning and was very happy with the give in the ground."

Zahra was already focusing on her next run and who could blame him.

"I will start the diet of fresh air to be 53.5 for the Blue Diamond," joked Zahra.

"She just won on raw ability today, she is still a bit green but has a big engine."

Zahra observed that he never really felt like he was breaking any records just travelling comfortably.

"When they float along like her you don't really notice how fast you are going," he said.

"Although when I asked her to quicken I knew she was something special."

Psychologist has quickly been wound in to a Blue Diamond favourite on many sports betting sites but the question is how much a Class Record breaking run takes out of the filly.
